VORT Testing or CBT&A Testing For Your Driving License

Driving Lessons For First Time Drivers
March 16, 2017

There are two ways you can get your license in South Australia, to get lessons from a certified VORT instructor and carry through those lessons to the final assessment or you can opt for the “log book” method also known as CBT&A through an accredited instructor from www.pdtasa.com.au  as we train to VORT only

Definitions:

  • VORT = Vehicle on Road Test
  • CBT&A = Competency Based Testing and Assessment

VORT Testing is the scenario where you take driving lessons with a certified driving instructor.  This instructor will assess your skills over a period of time and after you have met the required conditions and competencies the student and instructor will arrange a time for a formal test.  The formal Vehicle On Road Test will test your driving skills and knowledge as a safe driver over a 55 minute driving assessment.

At Drive Adelaide we instruct students to VORT standard. We also teach other topics covered in CBT&A. We aren’t yet accredited to sign off the CBT&A tasks though encourage any student requiring CBT&A  tuition to ccontact the PDTA of SA on www.pdtasa.com.au and look for a qualified instructor in your area.

We will soon commence teaching using cbt&a

CBT&A Testing is often called the Log Book Method which involves the completion of 75 driving hours recorded in your log book, 15 of which must be night time driving.   This method generally takes longer than preparation for the VORT but the minimum training requirement covers a broader range of skills including country driving and freeway driving.

Which assessment method is better?

In most cases, if we were to compare driving students of equal driving skill/capability, a driver should pass a VORT test with fewer lessons than someone attempting the CBT&A method. CBT&A is a very thorough training program, covering more topics than VORT and will take longer, on average to complete.

With either method, there is still an assessment at the end. Most people don’t know that there’s an exam at the end of CBT & A (Log Book)!

An auditor from DPTI may be present in the car on the final drive.

Are you preparing for your VORT test?

Drive Adelaide assists all new drivers and can provide VORT driver testing assessment for our students.  We can also assist driving students who are attempting the CBT&A method by providing lessons and assessments that can be applied to their logbook once sighted by an authorised examiner.
